Hey guys! I’m new to this awesome community. I have a decade of experience in creating content and growing social media communities. My platform of choice is now YouTube and @Ted Carr suggested that I create a post on "how to start a YouTube channel" so here are some points to consider before you hit publish. Disclaimer: I’ve decided to keep it point form but action packed. If you want me to expand on any of the points, let me know below! Disclaimer #2: You, your channel & your niche will be unique but the points below are a great place to build off of. A. It’s okay to want to make money on YouTube but you are here to serve. Service comes before profit. B. You are building an online community and the communication with that community happens on YouTube. Speak & serve directly to your audience as if they are sitting in front of you. C. 2 simple statistics to obsess over. - Are your videos getting clicks? - Are people watching most of your video? D. Your video creation process should follow this format: Idea -> Title -> Thumbnail -> Filming -> Editing -> Optimizing -> Scheduling -> Post marketing E. It doesn’t matter how bad you suck on camera or how bad your setup is
just try and improve ONE thing every time you upload. F. Consistency matters more than you think. Consistency in uploading, how you show up on camera, the value you deliver, and your integrity to your purpose. G. Don’t try and recreate the wheel, find what’s working and build on top of that. H. Finding a tribe of other YouTubers to bounce ideas off of, is mega helpful. I. I’m against batch recording content in the beginning. Why? Because IF you suck on camera and you record 6 months of content
You will suck on camera for 6 months. J. Setup 1x / week where you can film a weeks worth of content. Watch it back & see where you can improve. K. Titles & thumbnails are super important, but video the video idea matters more. L. Play the long game on YouTube and you won’t stress about the views or lack of.
