Sanding the Inside of a Stocked Acrylic Reef Tank.
I have done this before and had good results, so I ordered a new set of sanding pads from Mighty Magnets and this is 1000 grit. I've learned that taking it slow and getting all of the scratches possible at the lowest grit is best, so I will get more at this grit tomorrow and then go to 1500... I have several grits up to 12000 which is a very slick polish. The haze you see is slightly cloudy water from the sanded acrylic which will run through the filter as well as the sanded areas of the display panel... basically the entire front of the tank. I will change my filter media daily until it's done.

I’ve had fish tanks on and off my entire life but wanted to dive into the world of aquascaping and aquatic plants in the last couple of years. I was fascinated by aquatic plants and tried to grow a lot of different species without CO2 injection. There are certainly low demanding plants that don’t need it but I wasn’t getting the colors, health and growth I was trying to achieve. Like so many, I was a little hesitant in setting up CO2 due to upfront cost, maintenance and upkeep but I was also sick of spending a ton of money on plants just for them to all wither away! So I bit the bullet 😂 I currently have 5 tanks, 2 high-tech with CO2 (60 gallon display & 20 gallon Farm Tank) and 3 low tech guppy jungles. I probably started off with a quarter of what I have in the pictures/videos, and I definitely battled algae like everybody else, but once I learned about balancing CO2, light, fertilization and flow, the plants took off, algae went away and now I just keep propagating them so I always have plants on hand to scape with. The biggest struggle is having to keep up with maintenance, water changes and not knowing what to do with all the trimmings! I am literally running out of space very soon. Biggest win for me is definitely being able to successfully grow almost all difficult species (except for 2… Rotala Florida and Rotala Ramosoir Sunset), and all the knowledge I have gained in the freshwater hobby. All-time favorite fish has to be the German Blue Ram.

I have this little 12 gallon refugium in the back of my reef, I wanted to hopefully help with nutrient export... specifically phosphate but it seems undersize for a 200 gallon, so now it's just an attractive way to fill in dead space in the equipment panel.
Long-Term Reefing, Short-Term Sanity: Introduction
I’ve been in saltwater for nearly 30 years, starting as a kid in freshwater before inevitably falling down the reef rabbit hole. Today I run a 200-gallon bowfront display, a 25-gallon frag tank, and I’ve just started a 7-gallon drop-off nano dedicated to rock flower anemones. I’m very DIY, highly technical, and always interested in understanding the why behind what works. I like systems that are stable, intentional, and a little over-engineered—lab-grade when possible, but still practical. Time and budget are always a constraint (as this hobby loves to remind us), so I aim for solutions that deliver reliability and wow factor without unnecessary complexity. I’m here to learn, share what’s worked (and what hasn’t), and enjoy the process with people who appreciate both the science and the art of reefing.

@Niki Cooke Yep! It's always a great ice breaker... Although sometimes a distraction so I blur or use Ai backgrounds.
