šŸ˜…I need your help. šŸ˜…
I'm working on my own music alongside you. We're doing this together. I just thought I'd remind everyone that's the case lol... and practice what I preach! So here I am asking for feedback. https://s.disco.ac/qnkhejohjcyw PHANTOM: This is a song that at this point is over 10 years old that I wrote with a guy named Vlad Holiday. It was my first proper co-writing session when I moved to New York and original, which is the first song in the playlist, never landed anywhere, and my skills since then have dramatically improved. The second version I started during covid that's a string remake of the original (still planning to get vocals on it)... but I've never found the right male vocalist to get on it. I'm considering singing it myself, although I'd need atleast a week of warm-ups and concentrated practice to get my singing chops up to snuff for this. Do I tackle it myself? Do I try to find another vocalist? Do I do both versions, the string version and an updated version of the more electronic downtempo vibe? The OG vibe worked great for 2010 but needs to be updated for 2026. Originally, the reference was Mickey Echo, if you all remember him (writer of Stay by Rihanna). Who's the reference for this now? This is one of the songs that I'm digging out of the crates and working on refinishing. Would it be helpful for me to break down my process as I work on finishing this in a video that I would share with you all? Let me know your thoughts. Appreciate you all. So grateful for the community that's building and growing here.

You asked the question, "Do I do both versions, the string version and an updated version of the more electronic downtempo vibe?" IMHO, you're spot on working on updating the downtempo electronic version with newer sounds/fx approaches -- and if I were your producer, I might actually try updating the downtempo version and selectively combining the strings arrangement within the downtempo version. Maybe also worth trying a slightly faster tempo? Those are my initial impressions. Can't wait to hear how it comes along! Thanks for being right in the thick of the growth process with us, Glenn!

@Glenn Macrae - Updated reference? I'm not on top of today's charts by any means, but if you go in a more electronica pop vibe, maybe something like "All I Need" by Cannons (but with male vox): https://open.spotify.com/track/69ur0NXhvD16FHgWTofkT1?si=9bf9984dacf7401f
Love to get some feedback
I write in a myriad of styles and flavors, and also would love to collab with folks if they have vocal ideas for some of my tracks. I thought I would try to just pick three songs from my library that give a few different glimpses into the stuff I write. I would love to hear anyone's thoughts and feedback. Thank you in advance. https://s.disco.ac/raqknzbfudsk

@Adam Nelson When "Winterfall" started playing, I pictured you and Michael Hedges hanging out with David Crosby, just jamming outside on a spring day - gorgeous. I'm a big fan of bird sounds in production, too! The other tracks have high-energy, anthemic qualities I could hear in a sports ad or the like. Nice work!
Playlist Names -
This is a recent cue I'm working on and I'm deciding on which would be the right playlist for Disco/AC - I checked out Glenn's very thorough "Sync Moods" worksheet and this track leans toward the "Positive" column - which has elements of Hopeful, positive, optimistic, bright, joyful etc . . . . but has a couple of moods from the "Calm Emotional" column. (Peaceful, calm, reflective) - Disco/AC's auto tagging actually lined up with Glenn's "Positive" column. I'd welcome comments as to what kind of playlist this track could go in and what to call the playlist . . . . Maybe call the list "Hopeful-Positive-Optimistic?" - Thanks! https://s.disco.ac/iwxhnwimmypk

Playlist names are tricky for me too - I want to be efficient, but not so wordy that it confuses things, ha. I think either grouping works, though: 'Peaceful - Calm - Reflective' or 'Hopeful - Positive - Optimistic.' "Monica's Theme" is gorgeous, and I love the 'space' of the mix.
Quirky Cat and Mouse Vibes
Hi Sync Vault fam - In the spirit of sharing compositions in progress... I started a piece of music during FAWM 2020 (February Album Writing Month: https://fawm.org); it was titled "You Will Never Sneeze Louder than Me," which was an inside joke about how loud my grandmother used to sneeze when I was a kid (sounded like she was being attacked by a wild animal in her kitchen). I eventually just started calling it "Kitchen Sneeze." Fast-fwd to 2026, I shared the demo with Glenn, and he gave me some really thoughtful and constructive feedback to refine my original sketch. I've spent time working on it recently, and I like how it's turning out. I wanted to share my updated demo with you guys, really just for a vibe check and general feedback. I'm especially wondering what type of sync placement you think this might be good for??? I plan to mix it this weekend; meanwhile, I found a vintage cartoon that sort of supports the bouncy, frenetic silliness of the song: https://s.disco.ac/cefxxcsdfsyt

@Kaleb Blackard Thank YOU for this encouragement; it means a lot. That droning pad/swell at the beginning, middle, and end is the main riff played on piano, and then I chopped a clip of that and reversed the audio file so it plays backwards. I really appreciate the compliments on the mix too. I feel pretty happy with how the whole thing evolved with the production and mix.

I'm super grateful for the feedback posted above, but still wondering what type of sync placement this song might work for? It has upbeat party vibes, maybe, but also cartoonish energy... I'm thinking a beer commercial. Lol. It's Autumn and a big group of silly friends are playing football, laughing, goofing off - and then they all drink beer together, and blossom in a little happiness bubble. But seriously...

Shoutout to @Tyree Newton for getting his first track approved on Pond5 after a rejection. A few weeks ago he was getting rejected and asking questions. Now he's got a placement-ready track live on a major library and already planning the 30 and 60 second edits. That's the process working exactly how it should. That's how it's done. Shoutout to @Joe Goldberger for showing up to Monday's Q&A ready to work. Came in with real questions about Disco, library research, exclusive deals, and how to actually build a contact list that means something. 55 years as a professional drummer and composer, brand new to sync, and already doing the homework most people skip. That kind of preparation is going to pay off fast. That's how it's done. Shoutout to @Virgil Cash for finishing 6 tracks last week, starting two more mixes this week, and still taking time to encourage everyone else in the Monday thread. Productive and community-minded at the same time. That's the standard. That's how it's done.
