0 to $27,780 in retainers on Upwork in 2 months [Video Coming]
Hey guys, as some of you have seen I restarted my Upwork game on December 1st. 0 dollars per month in retainers. I spent the first month or so understanding how Upwork works in 2026, as I had not applied to a job in over a year. Once I understood how the game is played now, I got rolling (check my previous posts about it). Since then I've landed $27,780 in monthly retainers, and about 5k in what will probably just be one off jobs. The crazy part is I've barely pushed on it. My bottlenecks for resources have been what slowed me down (hence why I'm hiring, apply at matt@width.ai), and once cleared up I should be able to push even further. I've also turned down 5 jobs so far that did not fit my criteria. I will be recording a full breakdown video this weekend on the Journey, what I do, how I've been able to land these, and my plan moving forward. If you are trying to scale on Upwork I highly recommend you tune in. Video will be on the channel. good luck - Matt

@Matt Payne This is dope AF. Are you having agents apply to the job w/ a prototype solution first? What I do is just read the post, send to openclaw, it produces an tangible something w/ a link, and they connect to it to see it, and think holy shit this guy already built it? You're guarentted to go to the front of the line lol vs all the ppl saying "sir tell me requirements"

Then build a solution to break captchas lol. The way captchas work is they watch your mouse cursor, a straight line is AI, but random human like movements break it. You want to make a uber schocastic function, to show it being random, and moving around them mouse, then go to it. Idk what openclaw did, we just used a ralph loop to crack it. if its a text-catchpa, you can source that to a $.01 per catcha broke sweatshop farm service.

I'm a bit late... But I think it's time to start jumping into it for some videos. Watching some demos, this seems like a huge opp for automations. What are your favorite usecases?

I have it research and make processes for me. E.g. read all the hormozi sales stuff, and then use it to improve my sales closing workflow e.g. I have an agent take/vet sales calls for me to close.
Human in the Loop video (out now!)
Human in the loop can now be used as 1. Individual Nodes 2. Chat nodes 3. Tool calls This allows you to review outputs of Ai Agents before they are published on social media, internal documents and more. A ton of companies require this and it’s a way to show you aren’t a beginner in n8n automations. https://youtu.be/nHiEdjY9FKE

Would you suggest using some sort of structured table as an interface and not act out of n8n or a telegram channel? Like a rigid Airtable view. This way a human can review and toggle a status of "Approve" and the AI can cycle back and revisit them and say yeah.
Came in here to say I worked with Ryan many years ago......... Hes one of the most brilliant people I've met.
If you're in this community and on the edge of deciding if this is it, don't take long to be indecisive and make that mistake. I do data / team ops with AI, and everything here is crystal clear and solid. You'd be doing yourself a disservice if you go back to Youtube and keep grinding to "find those gems" when they're all right here in the community. Just keep at it, iterate, improve the data to improve the data, and your decision making increases and everything else flows from there.

Got a process that works? I write processes & staff them using the QUEST framework. The last 6 businesses I touched did between 2-8x (up to 150k/mo)
