Recording Grammy-winning vocals in a bedroom
Super excited to share something with you today that's a first of it's kind for Mastering.com We're hosting an exclusive 5-day Vocal Production workshop where you'll get to learn the A to Z of recording and mixing vocals from Adele's very own engineer. Introducing Austen Jux-Chandler. Austen won a Grammy for recording Adele on her album, 25. In the attached photos, can see him on stage (second from the left) accepting the Grammy with Adele. But that's just the tip of the iceberg. Austen has also recorded Ed Sheeran, Lady Gaga, A$AP Rocky, SZA, Mark Ronson, and John Legend. He has earned a reputation as one of the top vocal producers in the world. We recently hung out with Austen at Lion Share Studios in LA, where he told us that he prefers to record at his artist's homes, rather than multi-million dollar studios. It helps create a more comfortable environment that improves the performance, he said. That's when I knew we had to do something with Austen, so he could show you step-by-step how he's able to record Grammy-winning vocals in a bedroom. So, starting March 2nd, Austen is going to spend 5-days with students live on Zoom, teaching his entire methodology from session prep to recording, editing, comping, mixing, creative effects, and more. Austen has never opened up his process like this before, so don't miss this chance to learn from one of the best in the industry. All the info is here: https://courses.mastering.com/product/1769595511504x935745290124299100?utm_source=Skool Hope to see lots of you there! Rob

excited to join the classes
Hello, everyone! I’m super excited to join the classes. I’m a Latin music producer, and I specialize in creating music across different Latin genres. I’m also a huge fan of electronic music and love exploring its different styles. I’m looking forward to learning as much as I can and making the most of this opportunity. Can’t wait to get started!"

Welcome, Keicy!! This is truly a great space to grow!!!
only pop filter got the job done without making it sound dark
after testing returning many and even making some pop filters I believe this one was the best. and it was cheap too. It did a better job than expensive pop filters , this one is called sponge pop filter. ( thanks amazon 30day return policy I got to test and return many) So officially done with my pop filter journey. Definitely do your own tests off course. Your taste could be different ( I trust what i say but just leaving some room for error :) ) . There is also a third thick pop filter . When you do gang vocals or vocal shouts you can thicken the layer since signal is gonna be strong and harsh too and you can even that signal out right at the source with this trick. There is a reason some rappers and rock vocalists love sm7b . because that mic has too many shields inside and outside. You can scream and shout and it will be blocking all that signal distortion right at the source which will make easier to mix .3rd point I wanted to make -getting some separation at the source. so I started testing recording background vocals with a second mic which creates instant separation between the lead and bgvs so they all can sound intelligible without even mixing. ( bedroom producers - consider it) but you can off course use just one mic and apply different EQ curves to separate from the lead ( which is what I have been doing this whole time and that also work but this....."fire results".. . :) anyways. but that s my third point today. happy tracking.
