Introduction.
Im a residential contractor in Atlanta. I’m Working towards scaling my business without killing my self. I have a team of subcontractors that have been working for me for the last 7-10 years. Looking for best practices and ways to scale using AI.

Seeing a lot of movement right now—more jobs getting lined up than usual, and materials getting harder to lock in at a good price. Feels like demand isn’t the issue… it’s how supply is being handled. Starting to think there’s a cleaner way to organize it so both sides aren’t constantly adjusting last minute. Anyone else noticing the same shift?

I'm keen to hear who everybody is, and what their goals are I assume you already know who I am. But if you don't I'm Tim. I worked for 8 years for big contractors on road, rail, renewable energy projects. I've always worked for head-contractors. I recently worked for some smaller contractors as a consultant when I left my job doing estimating and contract management. It was good, but I found it hard to see a path to scale (other than just starting a contracting business myself) So I instead decided to build software, and found that that's 100x harder than I thought and a very easy way to lose money

My name is John Pohlman. I’ve always been a jack of all trades… not just by name, but by necessity. I’ve worked across the board—learning different trades, being on job sites, figuring things out the hard way like most of us do. I’ve seen what it really takes. Early mornings. Long days. Problem after problem—and still finding a way to get it done right. But one thing I kept running into, no matter the trade… Getting materials shouldn’t be this hard. Running across town for one part. Suppliers out when you need them most. Losing time, losing money, just trying to finish a job. And I started thinking… Why are the people building everything still chasing what they need? So I’m working on something called Plugged In. It’s not just another supply idea—it’s a better way. One connection for every trade. Order what you need, get it to your job site, no guessing, no runaround. Built for how work actually happens. But I’m not here acting like I got all the answers. I’ve been in it—but I’m still listening. If you’re in the trades… What’s the biggest headache you deal with when it comes to getting materials? I’m building this with real people, not assumptions. Awake. Aware. Active.

My name is John Pohlman. I’ve always been a jack of all trades… not just by name, but by necessity. I’ve worked across the board—different trades, different job sites—learning as I go, figuring things out the hard way like most of us do. I’ve seen what it really takes. Early mornings. Long days. Fixing problems on the fly and still making sure the job gets done right. But no matter what trade I was around, one thing kept showing up… Getting materials shouldn’t be this hard. Running across town for one part. Suppliers out right when you need them. Losing time and money just trying to keep a job moving. And it got me thinking… Why are the people building everything still chasing what they need? So I’m building something called Plugged In. The idea is simple: A platform where every trade can get what they need—fast, reliable, and delivered to the job site. No guessing on inventory. No wasted trips. No runaround. Long term, it becomes a full connection between contractors and suppliers across all trades—electrical, HVAC, plumbing, construction… everything in one place. But right now, I’m in the early stages. I’m talking to real people, learning what actually matters, and building it the right way from the ground up. So I gotta ask— If there was a platform that: – Let you order everything from your phone – Had real-time inventory – Delivered straight to your job site – And actually saved you time and headaches Would you use it? And what would it NEED to have for you to trust it and make the switch? I’m not here to assume—I’m here to build it with the people who live it every day. If you’re open to it, I’d also love to connect and get your input as I build this out. Awake. Aware. Active.
Looking for input
Hey—quick question for the trades. I’m working on something to make getting materials way easier—no running all over town, no guessing if it’s in stock, just order and have it hit your job site when you need it. Before I build it out, I wanna hear it from the people actually doing the work… What’s the most frustrating part about getting your supplies right now? And if there was a faster, more reliable way—would you actually use it? No sales pitch, just trying to build something that’s real and useful.
