Does drinking help with improv?!?
I think it's probably a bad idea to drink alcohol. However, I've heard several people report that it helped them overcome stage-fright and start improvising!! That's understandable I guess: don't they call it "liquid courage?" I've seen other communities host online Happy Hours where you can BYOB. I'm not saying I'm going to do that... But I won't fault you either if you have a few sips of liquid courage before Improv Games! I don't think it will help you play your scales more "cleanly" 🤪 But it might help you get over the hump of starting. Starting is the hardest part. Once you start, you likely won't want to stop! I do my best to make Improv Games a safe, fun, encouraging place... so you don't have to resort to whiskey to start. 😅Take a look at the calendar -- when can you muster up the courage to join us, with or without BYOB? This conversation was inspired by this comic. Can you imagine trying to play with a bass section that was loaded? 🍾🥂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 Any stories on this topic?

I have played in bar bands for years, and many of my band mates have been heavy drinkers. Many times I’ve heard that they play much better when they’ve been drinking. As for me, I found out very quickly that my fingers won’t cooperate if I even have just one beer, so I never drink when I’m playing! As for my band friends, they think they’re playing better, but as the only sober player onstage, I can attest to them being quite wrong!

Dueting with myself in F major!
My duet with myself in F Major! Funny how well two flutes blend when they are the same, right? Here's the link to the original duet so you can improvise with it too!

Very nice @Vic Wheeler
Improv in C
Here is my improv in C. I was trying to be intentional about playing from my heart. I liked that I had some ebbs and flow and the phrasing. I didn't like some of the times my tone wasn't what I wanted it to be and went flat on some notes.

That was very beautiful @Sheri Hudgins! Loved it! 🥰
There are 2 types of improvising mistakes:
1) What the audience hears as mistakes 2) What you hear as mistakes

I thought there was only one mistake: not doing it?

I’ve decided to dive back into flute after quite a long layoff. Excited to be here and to connect with fellow flute lovers!
