A Deliberate Choice — And One I Don’t Regret (Alhamdhullilah) I recently came across an article by AMAU Academy ( https://www.amauacademy.com/pages/social ) explaining why they intentionally stepped away from mainstream social media platforms. And SubhanAllah, it resonated so deeply with me. STUDENTS SURVEY They surveyed their students and asked a simple but profound question: “What most distracts you from your relationship with Allah?” — and across all backgrounds and ages, the answer was the same. *Social media.* Lost time. Weakened focus. Delayed prayers. Less Qur’an. Constant comparison, envy, and noise. Reading that felt like someone had put words to something I had been feeling for a long time. So I made a choice — not perfectly, not without struggle — but intentionally: to step back from the scroll, to guard my time, and to fill those hours with something that actually nourishes the soul. Because every minute I spend chasing reels and notifications is a minute I could have spent closer to my Creator. Closer to His words. Closer to understanding this deen that I love but so often take for granted. The article said something that I keep thinking about: “Not every tool that increases reach increases benefit. And not every space that is popular is suitable for sacred knowledge.” I’m not claiming I’ve figured it all out. I’m not claiming I’m better than anyone. I’m simply sharing that choosing less of the world’s noise and more of beneficial knowledge has been one of the most peaceful decisions I’ve made. May Allah make us among those who use their time wisely, who seek knowledge sincerely, and who draw closer to Him with every passing day. Ameen. 🤍 *إِنَّ اللَّهَ يُحِبُّ الْمُؤْمِنَ الْمُحْتَرِفَ* “Indeed, Allah loves the believer who strives in beneficial pursuits.” #SeekingKnowledge #LessScrollMoreSoul #BackToTheDeen #InshaAllah
