What is community to you?
Most communities don’t fail because of content. They fail because of how people feel inside them. And this is where psychology come in. Not in a weird way. In a very practical way. Because every community creates a kind of “state” in people. 👉 Some feel safe to share 👉 Some just observe 👉 Some feel pressure 👉 Some disappear And that’s not random. It’s influenced by things like: – The way we write our posts – The expectations we set (or don’t set) – How we respond to people – How clear the structure is Small things… big impact. For example: If everything feels “too perfect” → people hold back If everything feels chaotic → people get lost If nobody leads → nobody moves What I’ve learned: People engage when it feels easy and safe enough. People engage around topics of interest People engage to share I’m curious: Have you thought about what community feels like for you?

Thank you Nadene! I can relate to these experiences: ... when it feels simple and safe. ... when the topic is interesting ... when it’s okay to share your opinion. I would add: ... people listen with curiosity to learn something new, to reflect and, in doing so, to make progress and develop themselves. I have just taken part in the German IDG Ambassador Programme. One key insight was: we want to stay connected in the small working group, because this is precisely where this kind of communication is possible – valuable, appreciative and based on mutual trust. Today's Skill Builder: Collaboration - From Silence to Collective Action
Hi Community On today's Skillbuilder we explored what it really takes to lead—and collaborate—across difference in today’s fractured world. @Nadene Canning opened the session by framing 3 themes that feel especially urgent right now: • The perils of silence • The resilience of civil society • Moral ambition as a leadership capacity This was inspired by Jonathan Normand’s recent reflection “Davos in the Shadow of Unilateralism: A New Leadership Imperative the session invited us to look honestly at our own choices: >> When do we choose safety or silence over responsibility? 💬 What emerged Those present shared candidly about: • Speaking up (or staying silent) in meetings • Managing energy and disappointment when advocating for change • Taking responsibility even when impact feels uncertain ✨ Collaboration, it turns out, is not just a skill—it’s a practice of courage, care, and collective agency. What emerges for you when you reflect on this question: Where am I choosing safety or silence over responsibility? 👇 Drop your reflection in the comments With care Sarah & Nadene P.S. The Skillbuilders replace the previous weekly Hangouts. We meet every week for an applied IDG skill building reflection / discussion / action-taking on Tuesday, rotating between 8.30 am, 12.30pm and 6pm (CET time). Please join us next Tuesday, Jan 27th, at 6pm CET

thank you - This group has inspired me for almost two years now to keep going: participating, asking questions, opening small forums and discussion groups (in various ways, for different target groups, currently including honest sharing), and discovering within myself which IDG skills I want to continue using and sharing with the world. Even though I'm "acting bravely," I try to feel hope that my ambition resonates somewhere and isn't interpreted as silence because my scope for action seems so small.

What helps you reset during a busy workday?
On Friday, @Nadene Canning and I had a particularly long call, to prep for the video we shared with you earlier. After two hours of sitting we needed to get up, shake it out ... and the effects were instant and amazing. How do you reset ?

Depends how deep my work was, a quick stretching helps. Sometimes a walk for 15min is better to disconnect from the topic. Always like to do something which reminds me of - I am, I am here, I am now - even if it’s sometimes just drinking water consciously
Quantum healing
Did anyone attend « the quantum healing conference in Taiwan that went down a few months ago? Apparently it was riveting. Biology scientists are finding more and more receptors in the human bodies that explain better our far reaching, and in "colonialism world" actively suppressed, sensing skills. So fascinating to be alive while the workings of 'the many worlds' are coming back together as one whole. » This was brought to my attention by @Maria Niermann I’m curious to see whether there are others in the community here who are following these developments? What can we learn about this? Insights welcome 🙏🏼
