one job turned into another-knock and talk
Recently we were doin a job clearing 2.5 acres in Waxhaw, NC. This is a really nice suburb of Charlotte but feels like your in a ritzy back country lol. We always go to the immediate neighbors doors and do a "knock and talk" essentially we knock on the door and say who we are and what we are doing for their neighbors. we simply say "our machine is loud and can throw debris, if you guys need anything or are in any way affected by our work please reach out immediately" and we leave a business card. We dont try and sell them anything or push anything, we simply alert them to our presence, tell them what we are doing and leave our number incase we "cause issues for them" As we are finishing up the project the neighbor came over to us, not a short walk through the trees, and asked if we could quote her property. She had been watching and was so impressed with the work she wanted hers to match!! we walked the property with her and quoted her on another 3 acres. Deposit paid same day. Never be afraid to reach out and talk to people, you never know what could happen!

So I was super surprised when I was at lunch at work when I got a call for a land clearing job! Told them my minimum day rate ($2000) and they said is was fine, and I told them I need to walk the property and get with them soon on when I'll come over. I communicated through text and they sent me the blue prints Only 15min passed and confirmed with the wife that I'll be available to this evening to walk the property. I texted and called then he texted that their client found someone else 😐 I had speed , or so I thought. Maybe they were shopping around? But it gave me hope because so far my marketing has been 50 hand written notes to large land owners with bear gummies and stickers & 100 printed flyers that ive shared with Realtors, few neighbors while door knocking, contractors that I met on construction sites, and blue collar people I gave the flyer to while at work! So I find this as a win and a loss at the same time. Well I'll keep on grinding! What did you do for marketing and out reach to begin with? Any guerilla tactics like door knocking and mail?

Morning all. Is there a course or a certification workshop to learn how to operate mulching machines?

Man i hate I was in the machine and missed this. First off give yourself a pat on the back you did something so your better than 99% of people who never act. Awesome getting after it. Like just keep doing what Russell explained. You’ll get better and better as time goes. You have to be PATIENT in the machine. It was the biggest learning curve for me. Slow down. Slow everything down. You can top trees like Russell explained or a technique I’ve been doing is notching the bottom of the tree at the very base and pushing it over. Driving to the top on the ground and then coming back down the tree while it’s on the ground with the tree under one of tracks. Works well and stops you from throwing a tree.
