Jack is 10 years old playing his first year of 9v9 in the United States. Mid season their coaches do a formal player report/eval. These are really cool and I really appreciate them giving this level of direct feedback. What is so interesting about his feedback is that none of his next level skills about making saves. He had plenty of positive strengths about shot stopping, but his areas of improvement are all about playing out, playing with your feet, and communicating in a way to support playing out. Jack and I agree with with this feedback and have applied it to his game as best we can so far this spring. I mostly wanted to post this to highlight the expectations of a modern goalkeeper. Being strong on the ball will help your team control the game. You can both prevent high quality chances against your team and also create high quality scoring chances for your team by reading the play and being strong and confident in distribution. I just think this is really an interesting piece of goalkeeping and something worth highlighting to all the young goalkeepers in this community
