Spices Used for Jesus Burial
🌿 Myrrh What it did: Powerful antibacterial and antifungal. Slowed down decomposition. Strong earthy fragrance that masked odours. Why it was used: Think of myrrh like a natural “preserver + deodoriser.” 👉 On bed linen: It kept fabrics fresher longer and reduced smells from sweat or illness. 👉 On dead bodies: It helped delay decay, reduce bacteria, and make the body more presentable. 🌿 Aloes Deep, rich fragrance that lasted a long time. Helped absorb moisture. Mild antimicrobial effects. Why it was used: Aloes (not the aloe vera gel we think of today) was more like a luxury incense wood. 👉 On bed linen: It gave a lasting, calming scent—almost like ancient fabric freshener. 👉 On dead bodies: It helped dry and stabilise the body, while adding a dignified aroma. Simple picture: Like using both a deodoriser and a drying agent at the same time. Using costly spices showed respect, love, and honour for the person. 👉 Not just preserving a body… 👉 but showing how much they were valued.
