An April of Archetypes: 💕❤️'The Lover'❤️💕
To kick off the list of the 12 most common archetypes, I'm starting with 'The Lover.' The quick description is: A 'romantic' lead who is guided by their heart. Strengths - humanism, passion and conviction Weaknesses - naïvety, irrational (emotional decision making) Now, I know it's easy to immediately think of a romantic lead and while that would definitely fit the bill for a 'Lover' character or characters, it's doesn't always have to only take place in the midst of a romantic story. The lover is all about being an emotional center. Whether they are the emotional guide for the story, or just a trusted loyal companion to another protagonist, this archetype (like many) is versatile in how you want to define 'romantic.' Some examples of characters that fit the 'Lover' archetype: Romeo and Juliet (Romeo and Juliet) Wesley and Buttercup (The Princess Bride) Princess Anna (Frozen) Jack and Rose (Titanic) Jay Gatsby (The Great Gatsby) Timone and Pumba (The Lion King) Samwise Gamgee (Lord of the Rings Trilogy) As you can see, there is a pretty good amount of variety in those characters, but a commonality between them all is they all have a desire to create relationships and will help evoke feelings in your audience as well! Now I want to hear from you about your thoughts on the 'Lover' archetype, and better yet, I want to see your drawings! Stay tuned for 'The Lover Archetype' video where I'll talk even more about our first archetype of the challenge!

@N. Colin Dyer i interpret that aspect of them as The Mentor. I think particularly since we really only see them in terms of their relationship with Simba, their role in the original Lion King is The Fool and The Mentor. I think the Lover aspect only really comes out in Lion King 1 1/2 where we see their passion for finding a a home and a place they fit in Edit: actually, ig their motiviation for their attempted sabotage of the Simba Nala relationship is Lover behavior
Digital cleanup
I put one of my recent drawing through the same digital cleaning process i do with my comics At least one person has said this makes it a misrepresentation of my art, but i feel like this is more in line with what i actually see when i draw it. The original photo is so dull and weirdly yellow. What do yall think?

@N. Colin Dyer i do enjoy pencils, but i don't do them often. I just don't like the smearing that happens afterwards. This hasn't been a problem since high detail photography has become easily accessible, and also I've learned about protective sleeves

One of the more overlooked part of the comic process is the lettering, which is such an important step to get right. It may not be as flashy as the art, but bad lettering can throw a reader completely out of a story, so here are a few tips! More art and comic hacks can be found in the classroom here :) Let me know if you have any questions!

The hardest part of moving to digital was getting fonts to look natural against the illustrations. I ended up using calligraphr.com to make a custom font based on my hand lettering and that helped
